Jack

This mix is near to my heart. In the early 1990s I was growing up in a conservative religious home. Our church was opposed to drinking, drugs, dancing and gay sex; pretty much everything that had formed house music years earlier. I was ignorant to all that, though. All I knew is that when C&C Music Factory came on the radio, I loved it, then felt guilty for loving it. The track was poppy, yet aggressive! It's what I still like about house now. A decade later I was DJing in college and came upon a used copy of "Gonna Make You Sweat" in the budget bin. I rocked the Hip House remix at many a house party, to great results. This DJ mix, yet another decade later, highlights house that stays true to the jackin' spirit of the early 90's, when house bubbled into the mainstream. I ended the mix with the classic Clivillés and Cole track that captivated me 20 years ago.

AcidBass

This is my first mix using Traktor Pro 2! It took forever and I know I've only scratched the surface of what is possible with that software. Most of the music isn't new; I've been looking for an excuse to put some good old 303-esque acid synths together with tracks whose focus is a heavy bassline. Acid is like chocolate to bass's peanut butter, if you ask me! Enough already, here's the track list.

This week I am DJing a fundraiser for my employer, and I needed an hour or so mix that I could throw on to take a breather. I don't normally mix at 140 BPM+, so I took some of the more interesting stuff I've downloaded from the last few years at that tempo and threw it together. You could call most of the tracks "dubstep," but I needed to make it palatable enough to the average charity attendee, so I mixed up the styles accordingly. I snuck a few angrier tracks [e.g. 16 Bit and the Santogold rmx] in there, hopefully they won't piss off too many donors. Hope you like it!

Making the Cut Fundraiser Live Mix

Round about 9 months ago I DJed a fundraiser for a friend looking to raise money for a documentary. I had some help from another friend, (he of the ridiculous pseudonym) Captain Bondage Goth, who help put together a truly large (on the order of 4 hours) live mix. The reason it took so long to post this mix is because I was not really happy with the quality of my mixing and transitions. But the quality of the tracks was never in question, and there's lots of good stuff to hear. It did help that other folks kept asking me to put it up for download. Finally I ran out of reasons to procrastinate and posted this sucker. CBG and I discussed cutting the file into hour or so long sessions to make it more reasonable to digest. Obviously it would have taken me another 9 months to stop procrastinating on that, so I just posted the entire thing. Maybe CBG will be willing to do some of that editing. As it stands, this would be a fine mix to put on in the background for a party, or for an afternoon of studying or gaming. Hope you enjoy it!
